A retired Navy Captain, Jonathon Unger witness several government wrongs and collects the damning information. Armed with this information, the government tortures and imprisons him, but it can't break his resolve. After Overt-Kill murders his family and his fiancee', the government offers Unger a chance to kill him. While looking for Spawn in New York City, Unger is confronted by Overt-Kill. On loan from mafioso Don Bartino, Overt-Kill was destroyed in the alleys of New York City where he had been put to use by gangster Antonio Twistell. Dr. Eylan Hessman, Overt-Kill's creator, retrieves the remains of his robotic brother and vows to rebuild him. He exiles himself in a lab in northern Greenland where he secretly rebuilds a bigger and better robotic warrior he calls Overt War. (www.spawn.com)
Mafia boss Twistelli experiences several hits. The first bomb, strapped to a small boy, killed several of Twistelli's friends at a wedding; an anti-aircraft gun destroyed the money laundering warehouse, the cell phone cloning operation and a restaurant. Twistelli calls the mob to find out who is after him and why no one will get involved. Jason Wynn gives Twistelli the news: he abused Overt-Kill, a prized plaything of an Italian godfather. On a little known asteroid field at the Badlands Saloon and Grill, Poacher relates the story of how the First Angel, Abdiel was sentenced for a mission to penetrate Malebolgia's realm and terminate him. After Abdiel's mission briefing and initiation into a fallen angel's disguise, he is thrown into Hell. Once there, Smuggler eagerly volunteers to be Abdiel's guide to lead him to the Malebolgia. Along the way, Lilith, Grand Duchess of the Eighth Plane, tries to seduce him and is greeted with a brief but fierce battle which attracts the attention of the Malebolgia. (www.spawn.com)
After killing Aranxia, Westerlin brings Priest home. The ferals, programmed to retrieve the module, break into the compound, kill Westerlin and find the module. Priest incites the miners to overthrow the guards and follows the ferals through the jungle. She kills a feral, and follows the other back to the medlab just before Arno and Bergregor release the module's contents into the atmosphere. Priest kills both scientists and retrieves the module into the hands of Jason Wynn.

Jessica Priest is subjected to painful testing as the incestuous twins, Liz Arno and Kevin Bergregor, attempt to turn her into an experimental feral. When Priest escapes with their prized Heat-16 module, her former comrades are sent after her where they destroy the occupants of the nearby town of El Morte. Jessica Priest's sociopathic personality is revealed in a flashback to her childhood, her living arrangements and demonstration of her abilities as a government assassin. Socially, Wynn gives Priest an assignment-to recover a biogenetic weapon coded Heat-16 from a lab in Brazil. After attacking Electro-storms from consuming Earth, Angela is thrown into Limbo's core. She rescues a Heaven agent, Callindra and her clients, the Custers. Angela fights the demonoids & meets anti-angel Lilith and Deurges. Angela clashes with Lilith, losing her Elysium-lock to Deurges. Angela and Lilith end up at the lifeless planet, Pentages-Fraser. "Batman is a vigilante in Gotham City. He realizes that his battles with the Joker will eventually lead to their deaths, and wants to prevent that. He goes to visit the Joker at Arkham Asylum to talk to him about it, but discovers that the Joker has escaped.
Meanwhile, the Joker is out to prove that any normal person can turn insane from having one really bad day. He tests his theory on Police Commissioner Gordon by kidnapping him, stripping him, and torturing him by subjecting him to photographs of his daughter Barbara naked and suffering from a debilitating bullet wound. This book has flashbacks to Joker's memory of his past and how he turned from being a struggling comedian with a pregnant wife to a psychopathic killer.
Batman discovers that Barbara has been shot and Gordon has been kidnapped and follows clues to try to find Joker's location and rescue Gordon."

The Argus explodes, activating the Kron and releasing Angela who is thrown into the "Foyer Oblivion". As the mysterious Deurges watches, Angela flashes back to Elysium and the Hall of Light where she confers with her mentor, Katherineal Triumvirate from fracturing.
Angela has been commissioned by the survivors of the planet Pentagus-Fraser to destroy the evil ravaging their planet. Amidst the melee, Angela battles the arachnid beast, Argus. She becomes distracted by the face of the mysterious Deurges long enough to become entangled in Argus' Web. After her capture the legend of Angela's origin is revealed in flashbacks of the lives of the sacrificing souls that were blended to become the Heavenly warrior. In each case the last thing they see is the
dispassionate face of Deurges.
While Suture sits in jail, Sam & Twitch interrogate Osborne. Osborne confesses to what he and the others did to Gretchen Culver. In the interrogation room, Suture escapes and begins her rampage. At the station, Suture attacks the officers and follows Halliday and Deke as they leave the station, and steers their car into the East River. Halliday comes ashore to find Deke already strewn and sewn up, and becomes Suture's next victim. She is finally comforted by Sam & Twitch.
Sam & Twitch are warned off of the Culver case by NYPD Internal Affairs. They ignore the warning and look for the paramedics
to question only to find them "sutured up". Later, across town, they "interview" Officer Kenny Osborne at gunpoint.
Meanwhile, Jeremiah "Sharpie" Euden nearly claims another victim when Suture interrupts his work and kills him. Later, Sharpie's body makes an appearance.
Wayne Tannager seeks Sam & Twitch's help in locating his missing fiance', Gretchen Culver. Elsewhere, the police clear two more serial killer cases from their books when they find the killer sewn up by Suture's handiwork. Mawbley becomes Suture's next victim just as he intends to start a killing spree in a movie theatre. Meanwhile, Sam & Twitch trace Gretchen to an empty grave.
John Mawbley is a serial killer certain he is cleansing society of its evil. When Gretchen Culver happens upon the carnage of Mawbley's crowd killing, she runs into traffic and is critically injured. She regains consciousness while being raped by the police and ambulance attendants, where she is beaten unconsciousness again. They deliver her to another serial killer for disposal. Meanwhile Sam and Twitch help their former police officers investigate still another murder case. When Twitch begins to question their career change, they land the missing persons case of Culver.
As Spawn races to rescue Madrid and Matthew, he is attacked by the demon chasing him, whom he eventually kills. Meanwhile, the Navkies attack the school. As Matthew runs to the auditorium, he is captured by Abel and taken to the tower. Madrid fights the Navkies with Siv and Flachette, and is saved by Spawn. After being expelled from the school, Madrid, Siv and Flechette race to the tower to save her son. Along the way, Bune attacks Spawn, only to be destroyed. At the tower, Spawn takes Matthew and warps him to his mother, and then kills Abaddon.
Spawn is attacked from all sides and in his anger and confusion over his present state of being a warrior from Hell, destroys many humans while his cloak whispers encouragement. Flashbacks of his sister, Madrid, and his mom torment him. Meanwhile Madrid and Matthew reach a human enclave where they are taken to meet the spiritual leader, Montemeure, who orders them killed. They are saved by Abel and Dorro. After watching Daniel Llanso's reaction to his Hellish situation, Abaddon confers with Phelgethonyarre about Spawn's continued testing.
Memory flashes of Daniel Llanso's past reveal few clues to his present situation as this future's Hellspawn. Madrid, frightened by witnessing the Hellspawn kill the Desiccator, turns her spinner on him and fires while Matthew recognizes him as his uncle. As they flee the area, they battle the Nightmares and manage to commandeer an Armored Personnel Carrier. Meanwhile, as the Hellspawn recovers from the blast, the demon, Abbadon initiates a genocidal mission. Elsewhere, the Anti-Pope visits the Nu-Vatican chambers where he guts a prisoner named Abel.
In a future war, the battle of Armageddon is about to commence. The Anti-Pope, allying with the forces of evil, stands at the threshold of victory. Then, the man once known as Daniel Llanso rises out of the death destruction to become the new Hellspawn of this era. In a blind rage of memories from his own abused childhood, he saves two refugees, Madrid and Matthew from certain death at the hands of the Desiccator, by killing him. Even though Hellspawn just saved their lives, they feel only terror toward him while he seems very familiar to them.
As computers explode and deadly insects pour out of the walls of the team's new underground headquarters, Johann, possessed by the ghosts of the Nazi scientists, struggles to stop the madman who's recovered the Spear of Destiny. Back in Rhode Island, Abe Sapien concludes matters with his dead wife.
Something horrible has waited fifty years inside an abandoned military facility that the BPRD are now calling home. Now the team must confront the ghosts of scientists-- and a Nazi madman with a scheme involving the Robe of Christ, the Spear of Destiny, and a giant death ray.
Back on the East Coast, Abe Sapien dreams of happier times in the arms of his long-dead wife.
Johann communes with the Bureau's new headquarters, while an eighty-year-old German who'd been living in the basement, surviving on a diet of spiders and mushrooms since the fifties, shares a story of Nazi scientists, occult technology, and the U.S. death-ray cannon.
Back east in a small seaside village, Abe Sapien reunites with his dead wife.
Mysterious shrines are appearing across the Midwest-- shrines to frog-like gods that bring a gruesome death for anyone who encounters them. But before the BPRD can pursue this threat, Johann is overcome by a mysterious presence lurking deep beneath the new BPRD headquarters. Meanwhile, Abe Sapien wrestles with demons of his own in an old house on the coast of Rhode Island. The secrets of his past are not only revealed to him, but take terrible form before his very eyes.
B.P.R.D stands for Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense in Mike Mignola's Hell Boy. It consists of names like Abe Sapien, Liz Sherman, Johan Krauss and Ben Daimio.
Abe Sapien digs up more details of his origin, as the biggest secret in ten years of Hellboy comics continues to unravel. The other members of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense meet their new team leader, a formerly dead Pentagon special operative, as they move in to their new command center to combat the ongoing plague of frogs.
